Not writing, but judging...

Haven't had a spare moment to myself of late, so no writing. It's rather sad, actually. I am, however, judging a writing contest at the moment, so it's not like I'm doing nothing at all (that's what I keep telling myself).

Hope all of you in the writing blogosphere are making more progress than I am at the moment!

Feel your pain Mon! I feel sooooooo unproductive about my writing at the moment :(

Enjoy the contest judging though. It's always a BIG learning experience in itself!

At least judging keeps your eye in, Mon. Hope you get time to write soon!!!

Rach, I've judged two before, and I really enjoy it. You can learn sooo much from judging, and the talent out there is just amazing. I also enjoy the notes I receive from appreciative entrants (got one recently that made my day).

AJ, yeah, it makes me feel like I'm doing something productive. Feeling rather useless of late.

That's exactly like me!

I've been "thinking" about this new story I want to get started for months now, since the birth of my daughter in Feb, and I've yet to get it started. I did try. Wrote three sentences and thought this ia crap and deleted it.

It's not like i don't do anything, i do think about the possibilities in my head, especially at night when i'm lyign in bed trying to get sleep, lol.

Like Rachael said, judging is a great learning experience. And I also love reading everyones talent. I just got my batch and I'm impressed!!!!

Hey Natasha, I hear you! But you've got a better excuse than most - a new baby requires loads of time and attention!

Very pleased to hear you've put your hand up to judge as well (I'm guessing it's the same comp!) so good luck doing that. Hope your own writing starts to flow once everything has settled on the home front.

Hugs,
Mon

Gah! And I'd just managed to forget that I'd entered any competition and people could be critiquing my work ANY SECOND NOW! *lol*

Hope you're enjoying the judging process! I used to slush read, and I imagine it would be similar (but with perhaps a higher base quality level due to the entry fee! You really have to be SURE before you enter ^_^)

Hey Julia,

The standard is usually quite high. I agree, paying the fee usually means people are serious, so they don't send in just anything.

Also, I never criticise an entry because it's quite obvious the writer has put in lots of time and effort, and they deserve constructive feedback. I try to highlight their strong points, and fortunately most entries I've seen in three contests I've judged have been really good!

Good luck with any contest you're in. The waiting can be awful, but hopefully the feedback you'll receive will be really useful.

Life- really it should know that we want to write. Yeah as if! :) Good luck with the judging. I'm sure that will help you a lot with your own writing.
