I've won something! Yay!

On my iPod: Only Girl in the World by Rihanna
Hey all,

Have had a week of tech dramas and ill health, but I'm back online and feeling a wee bit better. Not 100%, but I'm getting there.

Found out that I was the winner of the Name the Conference competition for the RWA's 2011 Conference in Melbourne. YAY!!! It's the 20th anniversary of the RWA conference, and although I didn't pick the exact wording 'From Here to Eternity' I was the closest to what the conference committee were aiming for (possibly had something to do with the fact I gave them 40 different ideas, many with a similar theme!). Very pleased about my win, and thank you to the committee for choosing me (pity I won't be in Melbourne to celebrate next year).

I haven't made a lot of progress with my wip this last week, but I did want to mention a wonderful book that I won at this year's conference which is helping me a lot. It's called The Plot Thickens by Noah Lukeman. I'm finding it very useful in the process of breaking down my characters, and I'm reading every page so I can get the most out of it. I'm not one to pore over craft books or to plot excessively (people who know me know it's a bit against my nature) but I'm trying REALLY hard!

Off to work on my 'to do' list. Have a great day,
:-) Mon

LOL - 40 entries. They must have been swamped. I put in about a dozen. Good on you Mon. Sorry to hear you won't be in Melb. I'm finally planning on a conference.

Te he he. It was split into two emails, so don't worry, Lou could handle it :-)

Sorry we won't get to meet in Melb. Maybe we'll catch up somewhere in NSW one day!

LOL Mon with the 40 suggestions (even if they were between two emails). So a huge congrats to you!!! Hopefully see in Melbourne.

Congratulations, that's awesome!

Are you entering the competitions that are coming up this week?

Thanks, EK! I went a little nuts, but I guess being a little nuts paid off ;-)

Thanks, Julia! No, I'm not entering any comps this year (I'm aiming for next year) but have put my hand up to judge. Are you entering anything? If so, good luck!

Yay Mon - I'm glad you've finally got a chance for it to register.

Thanks for being the bearer of the good news, AJ ;-)

Big congratulations Mon.

Why aren't you going to Melbourne? I'm in two minds. I don't plan to go unless I have something to show for it - like a finished manuscript! And that is highly unlikely.

I have the same idea, Shayne. My new material won't be finished by then, and next conference I go to, I want to pitch. I wouldn't be ready to do so by Melbourne.

Hope you have a nice tan and are feeling terrific after your Bali break!

I haven't been to one of the conferences before - do they let anyone pitch? If the romance conferences are to romance what Worldcon is to sci-fi and fantasy, I definitely want to go!

Julia,

Sorry it's taken so long to respond, but I haven't been on the blog for a while. Yes, you can pitch to agents/editors.

The workshops are also fantastic. Definitely worth going to an RWA conference, if you get the chance.
